Changelog

Every change to the VokaKitty app, newest first. You can get the current version through the beta programme on Google Play.

Version 0.9.1 – 22 September 2026

Changed

  • The Google Play listing is now available in eleven languages instead of one – newly including Brazilian Portuguese and Latin American Spanish.

Version 0.9.0 – 22 September 2026

New

  • Japanese and Chinese as app languages – the interface now runs in nine languages.
  • The app language can now be chosen in the account settings. Without a choice of your own, the app continues to follow your device language.

Version 0.7.2 – 16 September 2026

Fixed

  • The keyboard sometimes showed word suggestions in typing mode, in cloze texts and in the challenge duel that could give the answer away. The suggestions now stay reliably switched off.
  • Purchased feedback videos were stuck on the built-in fallback clip and were not played.

Version 0.7.1 – 15 September 2026

Fixed

  • The first data sync after signing in could hang indefinitely. Errors during it are now reported instead of being silently swallowed.

Version 0.7.0 – 13 September 2026

Changed

  • AI calls now run through our own backend. The access key for the language service no longer leaves the server; nothing changes for you in use.
  • Large word lists are processed in blocks during import. If one block fails, only its entries are lost rather than the whole import.
  • The daily quota for AI requests is managed server-side and can be adjusted without an app update.

Version 0.6.11 – 13 September 2026

New

  • Date of birth at registration: instead of a free-text field, a date dialog with a year grid opens – an invalid format can no longer be typed in.

Version 0.6.10 – 13 September 2026

Fixed

  • Grey bar between the content and the keyboard: the space for the bottom navigation bar was being deducted twice. Screens now end exactly at the edge of the keyboard.

Version 0.6.9 – 13 September 2026

Fixed

  • Grey empty space above the keyboard on several screens – a shared component was reserving space for the system bars twice.
  • The CHECK button in typing mode now responds directly to the keyboard animation rather than to a fixed delay, and stays reliably visible.

Version 0.6.8 – 12 September 2026

Fixed

  • The challenge duel could not be scrolled while the keyboard was open, and content could be cut off.
  • The sheets for importing a word list and for renaming a pool could not be scrolled with the keyboard open either.

Version 0.6.7 – 12 September 2026

Fixed

  • The keyboard covered the CHECK button during a learning session. The whole answer area now moves out of the way automatically.
  • The parental consent screen could not be scrolled fully on small screens with the keyboard open.
  • A longer pool name was cut off in the title bar instead of being truncated cleanly.

Version 0.6.6 – 11 September 2026

New

  • Challenge stake: when creating a challenge you can now choose a coin stake. The person challenged decides for themselves how much to match when accepting – down to zero.

Version 0.6.5 – 10 September 2026

Fixed

  • On many screens the on-screen keyboard covered the bottom input field (sign-in, registration, adding a word, answering in learning mode, settings and more) and the content could not be scrolled up at that moment. Content now moves out of the keyboard’s way.
  • The coin display in the shop stayed put after the first purchase, even though further purchases were actually deducting coins.

Improved

  • If signing in with Google fails, the app now distinguishes the cause (cancelled, no account, network problem) and shows a message that fits.

Version 0.6.4 – 10 September 2026

New

  • Shop: the coins you have collected can now be spent. The shop is reachable from the coin display in your profile and from the store icon on the home screen, and is organised into folders – “cat videos” at the top, for instance, with the individual clips below.
  • Protection cookie: a purchased protection cookie bridges exactly one missed learning day so your streak does not break. It takes effect from purchase and does not bring back a streak that has already broken.

Changed

  • Cat videos are now unlocked: one happy and one annoyed clip are included from the start, and all the others can be unlocked in the shop with coins. The age limit is unaffected – the particularly fierce clips stay blocked under 16, even if they have been purchased.

Version 0.6.3 – 9 September 2026

Fixed

  • The streak hint got stuck: “X more answers for today’s streak” was counting distinct words rather than answered questions. With a small pool of due words, or with repetitions, the threshold of 10 was never reached even though the streak day had long been credited. The hint now counts actual answers and disappears as soon as today’s streak is secured.

New

  • Streak achievements: your profile now shows how often you have reached a 7-day, 30-day or 365-day streak. These counters are kept permanently, even if the current streak breaks. A “protection cookie” to cushion a missed day is already allowed for in the layout but not yet active.

Version 0.6.0 – 6 September 2026

New

  • Invite friends: next to the refresh button at the top of the friends area there is now a share button. It sends a Play Store link carrying your own friend code. Anyone who installs the app through that link automatically gets the friend request after their first sign-in – with no code to type in.

Improved

  • More feedback videos: a considerably larger selection of reward and encouragement clips after each answer. The particularly fierce annoyed clips are only shown to users aged 16 and over.

Version 0.5.2 – 6 September 2026

Fixed

  • Crash while learning: in the “typing”, “self-assessment” and “multiple choice” modes the app crashed as soon as the reward or encouragement video was due to appear after an answer. The cause was an optimisation in the release build that stripped the video files out of the program. The videos now play reliably.

Version 0.5.1 – 6 September 2026

Fixed

  • Learning streak: the daily counter was reset to zero on every sync. As a result the hint “X more answers for today’s streak” stayed up permanently even though the words had already been answered. The counter now survives syncing.
  • Added missing translations for the streak hint.

Improved

  • Challenge: the “new challenge” screen now has the same arcade look as the rest of the app. There is a waiting animation during a match.
  • Profile: round profile avatar, account settings as an expandable menu.
  • Consistent controls: in pools and challenge, wide buttons in the standard style replace the previous round “+” buttons (FABs).
  • Layout polish on buttons, the pools and friends tabs, the challenge frame and the profile.

Version 0.5.0 – Beta

  • Bulk import (AI-assisted) fundamentally reworked: backup and export files from other vocabulary apps with hundreds of entries are now read in full instead of being cut off after the first few dozen.
  • Missing parts of speech and short descriptions are now added automatically during import when the source file does not supply them.
  • The import now checks imported word pairs for plausibility and discards translations that are clearly mismatched instead of accepting them – this mainly affects photo imports of handwritten lists.
  • Fixed several crashes and error messages when importing very large or unusually formatted files.

Version 0.4.0 – Beta

  • New score display in the online challenge with animation and sound effects for the buzzer, correct and incorrect answers, and the start of a round.
  • Reworked, humorous animation for when the buzzer time runs out without an answer.
  • Push notifications once again lead reliably to the right screen.
  • Bulk import (AI-assisted) can now also read backup and export files from other vocabulary trainer apps.

Version 0.3.0 – Beta

  • Added safeguards for AI-generated learning texts.
  • Various stability improvements when signing in.

Version 0.2.0 – Beta (September 2026)

  • Central configuration for the AI cloze texts (mode D): the provider is fetched from the server at runtime and never stored on the device.
  • Silent switch from mode D to mode A when no context sentence is available – with no loading state or error message.
  • Online challenge: real-time match with buzzer, round timers and score.
  • Push notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging) with four categories; learning reminders are opt-in.
  • Account deletion in the app with two-step confirmation.
  • Encrypted local database (SQLCipher); database and tokens excluded from device backup.

Version 0.1.0 – first beta

  • Registration, sign-in, optional sign-in via Google and Apple.
  • Create and edit pools and words, and share them with friends.
  • Learning sessions in modes A, B and C, with answer checking configurable for capitalisation, typo tolerance and the article rule.
  • Leitner flashcard boxes with 2-10 compartments, streak counter and coins.
  • Offline-first with background synchronisation.
